Dr. Jens-Christian Gaedtke assumed his duties as Consul General of Germany in Dubai and the Northern Emirates in August 2026.

Before moving to Dubai, he served as the head of the EU Policy and Strategy Division at the Foreign Office in Berlin. His assignments abroad took him to the European Commission in Brussels, Germany’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York as well as to the German Embassies in Tehran, Iran and in Pretoria, South Africa. At the Foreign Office, he held a range of positions, including in the Department for EU and Geoeconomics, the office of the Minister of State for European Affairs and the cabinet of the Foreign Minister.

Dr. Gaedtke earned degrees in law and political science from LMU Munich and the University of Tuebingen with studies abroad at the University of Geneva and Harvard University. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, he completed his legal clerkship with a term at the German Federal Constitutional Court and earned a doctorate in WTO law. He has published books and articles on international trade and European law.

In Dubai, he is accompanied by his wife and two children.
