National Visa – Category D: Study

The German Consulate in Dubai has generated this information leaflet. The Consulate is responsible for visa applications of those applicants who reside in the United Arab Emirates. The application form needs to be filled out online https://videx-national.diplo.de/videx/visum-erfassung/index.html#/videx-langfristiger-aufenthalt and printed out.

Applicants are requested to carefully read the general information sheet for National (long-term) visa for Germany (which can be downloaded from our website).

Please note that incomplete applications cannot be accepted.


Additional Information:

  1. Applicants with a confirmed university admission (“Zulassungsbescheid”) issued by a German University are considered as students.
  2. Applicants with a conditional university admission issued by a German University are considered as students.
  3. Applicants who have applied for potential university seats (e.g. Uni-Assist) & are registered for language course / preparatory course (Studienkolleg) course are considered as student applicants.
  4. Applicants, who are interested in doing a German language course only, are requested to provide the same documents, as for a student visa application, with the exception of a university admission letter (No. 6 b) and without the documents requested under no. 6 of the checklist.

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED

All documents need to be submitted in 2 sets of copies including application form. Original certificates / documents must be presented separately. Original documents will be returned immediately. Documents, which are not in German or English language, require a translation.


Every set has to be sorted as follows:

1.

Application form including the declaration of true and complete information (According to Section 54 (2) 8 in conjunction with Section 53 of the Residence Act)

available online free of charge

  • Fully completed in English or German, signed, and dated by the applicant himself.
  • If the applicant is under the age of 18, signed form “Authorization – Minors / Children under 18” needs to be attached including passport copies of parents/ legal guardian.
  • Must be submitted as printout attached to each of the 2 sets.
2.

Passport

Applicant must have the original passport & copies of the passport (personal data page including validity pages) & UAE residency & Emirates ID must be submitted as copies attached to each of the 2 sets submitted.

  • It is recommended that the passport is valid for at least 1 year at the day of submission. Please be aware that a visa validity cannot exceed the validity of the passport.
  • Signed by bearer
  • Passport not older than 10 years (issued in the last 10 years)
  • At least two free visa pages
  • Undamaged pictures securely affixed with/to passport
  • Previous passport if applicable
  • IMPORTANT: valid UAE residence permit Special rules might apply for some nationals which passports are not recognized by the German authorities.)
3.

Three recent biometric passport sized photographs (3.5x4,5 cm)

Requirements:

  • Should NOT be older than 6 months.
  • A frontal view of the face covering 70-80% (32-26mm) of the photo.
  • A uniform and light-colored background.
  • Clear facial features and eyes – not covered by hair or glasses frame.
  • Head coverings are only accepted for religious reasons.

Do not glue or staple the pictures to the application form.

4.

If applicable: previous stay in Germany / previous Schengen Visa

  • Copies of your old German resident Permit
  • Copies of previous Schengen visa
5.

Details from your University in Germany:

a) confirmed university admission (“Zulassungsbescheid”)

  • from a German University stating subject and begin of study (latest possible enrolment date must be at least 8 weeks in the future)
  • must state language of instruction

b) conditional university admission (“bedingter Zulassungsbescheid”)

  • from a German University stating the conditions to be fulfilled for confirmed admission.
  • confirmed language course (“Intensiv-Sprachkurs”) registration.
  • course has to take place minimum 18 hours per week over 6 months at a German language school (weekend or evening courses are insufficient.)
  • receipt/confirmation of language course payment for minimum 3 months

c) confirmed admission to a preparation course for University (“Studienkolleg”) or German language course

  • details regarding intended begin of preparation course.
  • letter of “uni-assist” or confirmation of admission as an applicant or detailed communication with the University for a concrete subject of study or entrance examination.

d) German language course (duration of the course has to be for more than 4 months and full time)

  • to provide the same documents, as for a student visa (No. 5b) application, with the exception of a university admission letter and without the documents requested under no. 6 of the checklist.


6.

Knowledge of Language, for cases of No. 5 a &b ):

  • Proof of language proficiency in English (TOEFL/IELTS), if course is taught in English
  • Proof of language proficiency in German, by a recognized institute according to ALTE (Association of Language Testers in Europe. In the U.A.E. the following institutes are recognized Goethe-Institut, telc GmbH, Österreichisches Sprachdiplom (ÖSD) and TestDaF- Institut e.V., if course is taught (partially) in German.
7.

Motivation letter (why do you wish to study in Germany?) in German or English, also containing your Curriculum vitae (CV)

8.

Documents reflecting your previous education and skills e.g. school certificates, university degree certificates, internships, trainings, and university and / or employment confirmation.

9.

Proof of financial arrangements to cover stay in Germany (please see additional leaflet “Blocked Account and Formal Obligation Letter” to decide which option you choose)

a) proof of a blocked German bank account (“Sperrkonto”):

  • For students (§ 16b AufenthG) minimum 11208€ for one year / 934€ per month

b) formal obligation letter (“Verpflichtungserklärung”) by a sponsor in Germany

  • needs to be provided in original and not older than 6 months, and with the remark “Bonität Nachgewiesen”.
  • needs to be provided in original

c) proof of scholarship (“Stipendium”):

needs to be provided in original

Incoming medical insurance or proof public / private insurance covering the applicant as an expat / student in Germany has to be provided at the time of visa approval. A travel insurance is not sufficient.

More information to be provided during the interview.


Note further:


  • Applicants, who come late to their appointment by more than 15 min, will not be permitted to enter the visa section and are required to schedule a new Appointment.
  • Only complete applications can be accepted; applicants will be requested to arrange a new appointment if arriving with incomplete documents.
  • Visa fees must be paid upon submission of application in cash (AED) only to the German Consulate only exact change will be accepted.
  • Processing time at the Consulate due to necessary and obligatory legal requirements usually takes a minimum of 7 working days and up to 12 weeks or longer. Applicants are requested to apply up to 3 months prior to the intended date of journey. Applicants are also kindly requested to refrain from status inquiries, within the first 8 weeks.
  • False or falsified documents will lead to the refusal of visa and / or further consequences.
  • Complete documentation does not guarantee a visa approval.
  • The German Consulate Dubai reserves the right to ask for additional documents and / or call applicant for additional information or interview.
